US Civil War Information
The United States Civil War was a monumental event that shaped American history. Taking place between the years of 1861-1865, the American Civil War battles were fought on US soil, mostly in the Southern states. The American Civil War was one of the most deadliest wars in US history. However, the American Civil War ended the issue of slavery as well as giving the United States Government more power and control over the country.

Civil War Animated        If a picture is worth a thousand words, a good animation is worth ten thousand. After reading book after book about the US Civil War and finding only complicated maps with dotted lines and dashed lines crisscrossing the pages, we decided to depict the key naval and land battles using animation technology.
While the animation helps readers view a broader picture of the battles showing the inter-relationships of the opponents in time and space more clearly, it is limited in the detail that can be shown. While accuracy has been attempted, at times the picture of the battles must be simplified to make the battle as clear as possible. We expect to continue developing new animations every few weeks until all of the key battles of the Civil War have been animated.
We are not attempting to reinterpret history, but merely to depict it as the best military historians have written it.
There are at least four potential benefits for virtual battlefield tours on the Web.
1) A person can visit the virtual site before visiting the battlefield to help gain perspective and understanding what he/she will see (including the chance to read perspectives from the soldiers)
2) A person can visit the virtual site after the visit to gain additional understanding of how the battle played-out.
3) A person can visit the virtual site as a substitute for visiting the battlefield (for whatever reason, the person is unable to visit the actual battlefield)
4) A person can supplement a visit to the site with a handheld device that has open access to the Web while in the battlefield (gaining the optimal experience).

Historic Magazine Articles Come to Life on the Internet  A reliable primary source website has recently added film clips to illustrate their growing database of historic magazine articles. This site is one of the reasons I can never discourage a student from using the Web. Old articles are hard to find in library databases... The articles on this website are of a more popular genre and provide those kinds of primary documents that are so interesting to read because they contain clues to the culture of the time they were written.
